B/ False - although she is very interested in him Emma really wants to control Frank churchill so that she maintains control over everyone she comes into contact with

C/ True - Mr Elton wants to marry Emma but she sees him as beneath her in social status and rejects him bluntly

D/ True - He praised the painting both because Emma was the artisit and also because he was trying to flatter her so she would marry him. Obviously he is a very simple person to believe that a few clever words would make her marry him

E/ False - Mr Knightley thinks that Frank churchill is very weak and spoiled for not trying to visit his own father

F/ False - she was their daughters companion and now she must find herself a job as a governess

G/ False - No where in the text does it say that she was in love with Mr Dixon

H/ True - Mr Elton is marrying Miss Hawkins because she is from a rich family and will also improve his social standing

LOOKING AHEAD

  1. I think she must be very weak willed to not see that Mr Elton is marrying her just for money and status and that only a few days before he was trying to convince Emma to marry him
  2. Yes Harriet will fall in love, although she really is still in love with Mr Martin and we know fromthe text that he still likes her very very much
  3. Jane will not become emmas friend as Emma doesnt like her. But if it had been different then emma would have forgotten all about Harriet and replaced her with Jane.. A new toy for her to amuse herself with
  4. Yes they will disagree because he knows exactly what sort of person emma really is. He can see through her despite all the lies and tricks she plays
